What if research didn’t feel clinical?
What if participation felt intimate, intentional…even beautiful?
Her Voice, Her Story is a narrative-driven, in-person dinner experience designed to do one radical thing: reframe the research encounter as something warm, deliberate, and communal. We designed this initiative with a belief that reshaping the narrative is a practice. A practice that, when engaged within the context of community, has the potential to create outcomes that reflect our collective vision for the future of Black womens experiences with healthcare.
This initiative is part of VOICES of Black Women, a groundbreaking research effort led by the American Cancer Society to better understand the health experiences of Black women across the United States, before cancer ever enters the picture.
Where Research Meets Story, & Women Take the Lead
Cancer disparities among Black Americans
OUR WHY
Overall, Black Individuals are diagnosed with cancer less than White Individuals, but Black Individuals die from cancer more than White Individuals.
LEGACY’S CUT SHORT
Life expectancy is lower for Black vs. White individuals
Women: 77.9 vs 81.0 years | Men: 71.5 vs 76.1 years
COMPOUNDED INEQUITY
Collectively, Black individuals have the highest death rate and shortest survival of any racial/ethnic group in the US for most chronic conditions including cancer, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
The primary goal of VOICES is to understand why Black women get and die from cancer which can help inform strategies to improve cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship (among other health outcomes) for Black women.
This is health engagement with main character energy.

THE INVITATION
Her Voice, Her Story gathers Black women around the table, not as subjects, but as sisters. Over an intimate dinner crafted by Boukman Hospitality Group, the lights soften. Performers bring a script to life right in front of you; words that echo what you've lived, what you've swallowed, what you've never said out loud. Then the scene pauses. And the pen passes to you.
Together, we rewrite the ending. Change the dialogue. Give the character the words you wish you'd had. This isn't research that takes. It's our practice of reimagining how . Because in this room, your voice meets other voices. Your truth finds witness. And when Black women write side by side, we don't just tell different stories. We build a different future.
There's a seat waiting for you. Come sit with us.
